The J.A. Henry Community YMCA is opening its doors – and its ovens – to the community through a brand-new Teaching Kitchen and a fresh series of cooking classes designed to educate and inspire.
Beginning Tuesday, May 6, the YMCA will kick off a lineup of hands-on cooking sessions aimed at teaching participants how to cook nutritious, affordable meals at home – no prior experience required.
The classes are open to all skill levels and are led by certified nutrition and health professionals, including registered dietitian Ashley Broadrick and registered nurse Crissie Smith.
“This is more than just cooking,” says Laura Horne, community health coordinator at the J.A. Henry YMCA. “It’s about giving people the confidence and skills to nourish themselves and their families in ways that are healthy, sustainable and fun.”
Class topics will include plant-based dairy alternatives, one-pot meals and clever kitchen hacks, and focus on simple techniques and wholesome ingredients.
Upcoming classes include:
Got Milk? – May 6
Seasonal Bites – May 15
Whole Grain Goodness – June 3
Eat Your Hydration – June 19
Eat Your Greens – July 1
Back to School Bites – July 17
One-Pot Wonders – Aug. 21
Kitchen Hacks – Sept. 18
All classes will be held at the J.A. Henry Community YMCA, located at 3500 Dodds Avenue.
Registration is open now at ymcachattanooga.org, or by contacting Horne at lhorne@ymcachattanooga.org.
