Hamilton County retains AAA bond ratings by three agencies

Hamilton County has reaffirmed its status as the only county in Tennessee to receive a Triple-A bond rating from three bond rating agencies: Moody’s, Fitch, and Standard and Poor’s.

Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger extended his gratitude to the county’s financial team for its continuing efforts to retain the ranking. “Our sincere thanks to Al Kiser, Lee Brouner, and their financial team for their hard work since 2011 to maintain the prestigious AAA bond rating by the three premier bond rating agencies,” Coppinger said.

Fitch commended the county’s financial team for its financial management. “Given the county’s exceptionally strong balance sheet position, its financial position is expected to remain strong and well in excess of the county general fund balance policy.”

Mayor Coppinger added to his comments about the announcement saying, “These have been difficult financial times, and our adherence to conservative fiscal governance allows us to be the only county in Tennessee to achieve this coveted AAA ranking from all three rating agencies. We are pleased that these efforts are acknowledged by experts in the financial world.

Coppinger said the evaluations gives the county the ability to borrow money at lower rates.
