The mother of a young man killed by a drunk driver reminded those attending the 12th Annual Victims’ Rights Luncheon Tuesday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of the importance of making good choices. Tiki Finlayson’s son, Kevin Daniel Yates, was hit head on by a drunk driver on July 31, 2011, and succumbed to his injuries the following day.
In memory of Yates, Finlayson founded 1N3, an organization named after the statistic that claims one in three people are impacted by drunk driving. The organization’s mission is to raise awareness of the consequences of driving while intoxicated and change people’s thinking about what they do.
Judges, law enforcement professionals, and many others attended the luncheon, and gave Finlayson a standing ovation for her moving speech. The event took place during National Crime Victim’s Week.
