For the 40 of it

Do It Yourself

April Sherrill

If you follow my articles at all then by now you know I have children; three small children to be exact. With small children comes stickers, gum, Sharpie on the walls, crayons and glitter. All this and more leaves a small amount of time for cleaning. That is, until I discovered an awesome post on the many wonderful uses of WD-40.

I was flabbergasted when I learned of the over 2000 uses for the special formula most people only associate with eliminating squeaks. I was on a quest to try some of the most useful ones for my home. This has to be quite literally the best thing ever made in a can. So today, I want to share the 40 uses I tried and conquered.

1. Lubricates small rolling toys

2. Cleans patio door glide strip

3. Removes scuff marks from ceramic tile floor

4. Removes crayon from walls

5. Removes water spots from mirrors

6. Cleans fiberglass bathtubs and showers

7. Removes tea and coffee stains from countertops

8. Removes crayon from wood furniture

9. Lubricates sticky drawers

10. Removes tape marks from walls

11. Removes stickers

12. Shines artificial house plants (one of my favorites)

13. Cleans and protects underside of cast iron skillets

14. Removes marks from floors left by chair feet

15. Cleans old muffin tins

16. Removes ink stains on leather furniture

17. Cleans black streaks on hardwood floors

18. Removes paint from tile flooring (saved my tiled floors)

19. Shines shower doors

20. Removes gum

21. Camouflages scratches in cultured marble

22. Removes glue deposits from linoleum

23. Removes strawberry stains

24. Cleans window sills

25. Lubricates vacuum cleaner roller brush

26. Cleans gunk from base of toilet bowl

27. Removes sticker residue from clothes

28. Removes laundry detergent stain from washer

29. Keeps cat poop from sticking to electric cat box rakes

30. Removes silly putty from furniture

31. Cleans lime stains in toilet

32. Cleans shower heads

33. Removes lipstick from fabric

34. Removes oxidation from aluminum window frames

35. Polishes silver jewelry

36. Removes grape juice stains (works on wine stains as well)

37. Removes silver marks from coat hangers

38. Shines aluminum sinks

39. Removes nail polish from hardwood floors

40. Removes cakes and food from bottom of cookie sheets

This is really just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to this fabulous blue can of heaven. On the WD-40 website you can find 2000 uses, but these are the ones I was able to try and report that they actually worked. I never knew it was such a powerful little cleaner.

Of course, since we are approaching the time of the year that many of us spend the weekends outside in the yard, it lubricates anything you can think of. I highly recommend trying WD-40 on anything in the home you thought was impossible to remove. It just might work!
