Music at St. Paul’s Artist Series continues




Peter H. Bloom, flutes and piccolo, and Mary Jane Rupert, harp, have performed together for 20 years, appearing in venues across the globe, with recent performances in New Zealand, Australia, Thailand, and the United States. Performing as Duo 2, they have garnered consistent acclaim for creative programming and compelling performances. Bloom and Rupert are known especially as champions of American music.

Rupert, acclaimed by the New York Times as exhibiting “real sensitivity,” has given solo recitals from Carnegie Hall to Beijing Concert Hall, and has appeared as a classical pianist and harpist with symphony orchestras and chamber ensembles throughout the United States. She serves on the music faculties of Tufts University, Boston College and MIT.

Duo 2 will perform at St Paul’s, located at 305 West 7th Street in Chattanooga, Friday, March 7 at 7:30 p.m. The concert, dubbed “Duo 2: Bach to the Future,” will feature the music of J.S. Bach, Beethoven, Saint-Sae¨ns, and Pamela Marshall. A reception will follow in Key-Andrews Hall. Tickets: $10 for adults; $5 for students.

Cuarteto Quiroga, a young Spanish string quartet, will make its Chattanooga debut in a concert at St. Paul’s on Tuesday. March 18 at 7:30 p.m. Cuarteto Quiroga has established itself as a dynamic and unique quartet. It has won international acclaim from critics and audiences alike for its distinctive personality as well as its bold and original approach to the string quartet repertoire. The group takes its name from Galician violinist Manuel Quiroga, one of the most outstanding string players in Spanish music history. The concert by this prize-winning quartet (the quartet-in-residence at Fundacio´n Museo Cerralbo in Madrid) will feature works by Haydn, early Schoenberg, and Brahms.
