Chambliss, Bahner & Stophel honored the 2022-2023 John C. Stophel Distinguished Students from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga’s Gary W. Rollins College of Business during the firm’s community reception March 22.
The reception was held at the Chambliss Conference Center in Liberty Tower and offered the seven award recipients an opportunity to interact and engage with members of Chattanooga’s business community.
This year’s recipients include:

• Katharina Glover, marketing
• Luke Johnson, finance, investments
• Keslin Moore, marketing
• Terisa Phonxaya, management
• Kyle Rains, economics
• Maggie Schulte, management, business analytics
“We’re privileged to have had the opportunity this semester to honor these seven deserving students for their exceptional achievements,” says Chambliss president and managing shareholder Mark Cunningham. “It’s our privilege to welcome these student leaders with community and business professionals who can provide guidance as well as serve as real-life examples of the benefits of hard work.”
The 16-year-old Stophel Scholars program supports local talent and encourages students to form lasting mentor relationships with local professionals.
Chambliss and UTC’s College of Business present the John C. Stophel Distinguished Student Award annually to high-achieving business students who have made significant and meaningful civic contributions to the college and the Gary W. Rollins College of Business while maintaining a strong academic record.
Award recipients are chosen based on their outstanding leadership, decision-making and communication abilities, as well as a high level of self-motivation.
“We’re proud to celebrate this outstanding group of John C. Stophel Distinguished Students,” says Dr. Robert Dooley, dean of UTC’s College of Business. “These are exceptional leaders who demonstrate a strong commitment to academics and community service.
Dooley also says UTC’s College of Business appreciates the commitment Chambliss has made through the John C. Stophel Award to recognize the accomplishments of its students.
“Not only is this event an opportunity to introduce them to the Chattanooga community but it also gives the students a chance to connect with potential mentors and future employers.”
Chambliss established an endowment at UTC in 2008 to honor the legacy of John C. Stophel, a founding member of the firm. Throughout more than 50 years of practicing law, Stophel led numerous civic, charitable and religious initiatives to benefit the Chattanooga community.
Additionally, he served as chairman of the University of Chattanooga Foundation board of trustees from 2001 to 2004.
