J. Burton Frierson, chairman of the board of Dixie Yarns, Inc., was elected president of the American Textile Manufacturers Institute Saturday in Hollywood, Fla.. He succeeds William E. Reid of New York, president of Riegel Textile Corp.

More than 300 public power leaders from throughout the TVA area are attending the 19th annual meeting of the Tennessee Valley Public Power Association, according to J. Wiley Bowers, executive secretary of TVPPA. The sessions will officially begin at 10 a.m. Monday when W.L. Manton, manager of North Georgia EMC, Dalton president will call the meeting to order at the Hotel Patten.

Robert L. Allen, Jr., a native of Chattanooga, has been named manager of the Volunteer Building, Stanyarne Burrows, Jr., vice president of administration and personnel of Volunteer State Life Insurance Co., announced.
Mrs. Myrtle G. Dye, supervisor for Hamilton County Schools, has been named to the fourth edition of “Who’s Who of American Women and Women in Canada.” Only 15 women in 10,000 throughout the nation have the honor of this listing. Mrs. Dye has served as president of the Tennessee Association for Childhood Education.

Hamilton County’s herd of registered dairy cattle, which for many years furnished milk for William Bork Memorial Hospital and Bonny Oaks School, is being sold. Allan Poe, superintendent of the hospital, said there are approximately 40 head of Guernsey cattle remaining at the farm. Most of the present inmates of the hospital are bedridden and unable to help care for the animals, and the price of the right kind of labor is prohibitive.

Preston P. Jordan, district manager of Southern Bell Telephone Co., has been named to head the intensive Star Spangled Banner Plan Campaign, May 3-7, for the sale of U.S. Savings Bonds, Sam I. Yarnell, chairman of the volunteer U.S. Savings Bonds organization in Hamilton County, announced.

Chattanooga has once again won an honor award in the National Inter-Chamber Fire Safety Contest, the Chamber of Commerce of the United States revealed in making public the winners list. Chattanooga has received an honor award in the population class for each of the last several years. It was in Class III, which is composed of cities with a population of 100,000 to 250,000.

The Hamilton County schools will present the 17th annual Music Festival tonight at 8 at Memorial Auditorium. The program will include songs by the voices of the sixth grade chorus. Selections by Red Bank High School band will be directed by Barry Jones. The guest conductor will be Dr. Charles H. Webb, Jr., assistant dean of the school of music of the University of Indiana.
