Mary-Catherine Weathers grew up watching her father, Realtor Billy Weathers, turn his passion for real estate into a successful business. But she had no intention of following in his footsteps, she says.
That changed after she discovered a passion for marketing while earning a business degree at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
She joined the family business in 2016.
“I liked the idea of helping people achieve their dream of homeownership,” she says. “It’s what I love the most about real estate.”
After three years as a member of her father’s team at RE/MAX Properties, the 26-year-old Weathers has moved her real estate business to Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices J Douglas Properties, where she’s representing homebuyers and sellers in Tennessee and Georgia.
Weathers moved to J Douglas Properties to take advantage of the training and coaching opportunities she believed would help her take her business to the next level.
After one month with the firm, Weathers has seven transactions pending and is on track to sell 47 homes in 2019, compared with 29 last year.
Weathers says her zealous dedication to her clients has allowed her to quickly build her business. “I walk them through every step of the transaction,” she says. “And when it’s time to hand them over to the home inspector or someone else, I’ve prepared them for that step.”
Weathers’ business goals include forming a team of real estate agents and staff members and using it as a foundation to reach even greater heights of success.
“I know where I want to be, and I won’t be able to get there on my own,” she says. “I’ll need the support of a team.”
Weathers is operating under the team name her father previously used at RE/MAX – The Weathers Real Estate Team. Since moving to J Douglas Properties, she’s hired an assistant as the first step in her team-building endeavor.
Until that process is fully realized, Weathers will be putting in long hours. “You have to work 18-hour days every day to get to where you want to be in this business,” she says.
Although Weathers has left the shadow of her father’s wings, the principles of real estate he taught her continue to guide her daily.
“Dad taught me how to prospect for business and be a strong negotiator,” she says. “My passion for real estate and drive to serve my clients well also come from him.”
A Chattanooga native, Weathers graduated from Girls Preparatory School, attended Auburn University for two years and then completed her undergraduate business degree at UTC.
She joined RE/MAX Properties, the company her father founded, after working as a regional sales representative for an energy drink for nine months.
Weathers enjoys traveling for either business or pleasure and previously has been heavily involved in dog rescue work. Through real estate, she hopes to achieve her personal goal of “becoming an independent woman.”
