Saturday, March 22

Mrs. James Gager and baby will go to Atlanta to visit Mrs. Milton Jarnigan.

Miss Margaret Birdie McBroom entertained with a luncheon at her home on Missionary Ridge during which she announced her engagement to Adrian Wilbourne Graves. Miss McBroom is the popular daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.P. McBroom. Mr. Graves is connected with Volunteer State Life Insurance, and has been in Chattanooga five years since coming here from Louisiana.

Sunday, March 23

There will be a conference at the YMCA Monday of the employed “Y” officers of the state. About 50 out-of-town members will attend. The local “Y” directors are hosts to the conference. G.E. Lundy of Bristol will preside.

Mrs. Katherine Dickinson Tucker of Keokuk, Iowa, with the help of the Girls’ Auxiliary, will present a song recital Tuesday at the Lyric Theater. The program will include “Songs for Children from Eight to Eighty.” Mrs. Tucker is the daughter of Col. and Mrs. L.T. Dickinson.

Mrs. Charles Winn Lamar of West Point, Ga., announces the engagement of her daughter, Ruth, to Dr. H. Quigg Fletcher of Chattanooga. Wedding plans will be announced later.

Monday, March 24

The marriage of Miss Evelyn M. Spencer and John Franklin Thomas was quietly celebrated in the study of Dr. J.W. Bachman at the First Presbyterian Church. The bride is the youngest daughter of Mr. E.G. Spencer. Mr. Thomas is connected with Southern Express.

Mrs. R.C. Mischler and daughter Miss Lorraine Mischler are visiting relatives in Ohio and Indiana.

Tuesday, March 25

Miss Charlotte Patten and houseguests Misses Dorothy Andrews of St. Paul, Minn., Marie Holler, and Ruth and Hazel Ralston of Portland, Ore., have returned to school in Washington, D.C., after spring vacation.

Miss Helen Rose is home from a visit in Nashville, and Miss Dorothy Rose has returned from Smith College.

Wednesday, March 26

Miss Rosalind Ewing entertained school friends at the Golf and Country Club at a luncheon. Her guests were Misses Louise and Grace Glover, Louise Llewellyn, Elise Chapin, Mary Belle Thomas, Ruth Payne, Elizabeth Read, Margaret Frierson, and Charlotte Patten.

Thursday, March 27

A Silver Tea will be given this afternoon at the home of Mrs. J.H. Hill on 10th Street for the Park Place School Improvement League. A special musical program will be given.

A telegram has been received from Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Dart, Jr. of Dayton, Ohio, saying they are not in the flooded district and are safe following a tragic flood there. The Laramie Dam breaks caused Dayton to be in 20-feet of water. The Algonquin Hotel is in water past the third floor. Mrs. Dart was Miss Katherine Martin of Chattanooga.

Mrs. Alvin Spears returned Wednesday from a visit to her parents in South Pittsburg.

Friday, March 28

The bodies of Lt. W.E. Armstrong, W.F. Simpson, and Earl McKenney were located today three weeks after the accident that caused their drowning in the Tennessee River near Harrison Bluffs. The bodies were found in the river under the brow of Lookout Mountain.

Dan Tower of Grand Rapids, Mich., is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. G.W. Wheland of St. Elmo.
