First Neighborhood Cup
Chattanooga Sports Ministries will host the Neighborhood Cup, an inter-community youth soccer tournament to be held at the new Highland Park Commons. The Neighborhood Cup is open to teams of boys and girls between 10 and 13 years of age, with boys and girls playing in separate divisions. Community members can support the Neighborhood Cup by volunteering or becoming a sponsor. For more information, contact CSM at neighborhoodcup@gmail.com or 423-799-0276. All Neighborhood Cup games are free and open to the public. Games will take place on March 2 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on March 3 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Veterans benefits seminar
Creekside at Shallowford retirement community, located at 7511 Shallowford Road, will celebrate the anniversary of the “Star-Spangled Banner” with a weekend of free events for seniors. Among the events are veterans benefits seminars on March 3 at 11 a.m. and March 4 at 2 p.m. The seminars are designed to educate local veterans and surviving spouses about the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Aid and Attendance program. The seminars will offer details about the history of Aid and Attendance and outline the requirements to qualify for the tax-free benefit. VA planning specialists will also be available to provide a prequalification interview for anyone interested in applying. Mountain bike demo day
East Ridge Bicycles will host a free mountain bike demo from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Enterprise South Nature Park. Giant Bicycles will bring a trailer of bikes for people to try for free. Author Rachel Burson book signing event
Time: Noon to 3 p.m. Place: Rossville Public Library, located at 504 McFarland Avenue. What: Burson, a resident of Rossville, Ga., will be available to sign copies of her children’s book, “Aalayah’s New Hope.”

Traffic Skills 101
Outdoor Chattanooga will offer the League of American Bicyclists’ Traffic Skills 101 course from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Outdoor Chattanooga in Coolidge Park. Students will learn bicycle safety checks, fixing a tire, lane positioning, on-bike skills and emergency maneuvers. Classroom instruction in the morning will be combined with parking lot drills and on-road training in the afternoon. Adults and children age 16 and older may attend. Cost is ten dollars. Tellico River area cleanup day
The Appalachian Chapter of Trout Unlimited is asking for help with the annual Tellico River Area Clean-up Day. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. at the Tellico Ranger District Office. The first 75 people to sign up will get a free event t-shirt. Bring your own gloves, water bottle, sturdy shoes and long pants, and wear bright clothing for safety. The Jewish Cultural Center is hosting an exhibition of paintings, photographs and prints titled “A Sense of Place” at its gallery at 5461 North Terrace Road. Gallery hours are Mondays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through March 16.

The Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce will present its 2012 Small Business Awards from 8:30 a.m. – 10 a.m. at the Chattanooga Convention Center. Breakfast will be served. The finalists in the 1-20 employees category are A Silverware Affair, Episode 49 and Office Furniture Warehouse; the finalists in the 21-50 employees category are Allied Eye Associates, Chattanooga Business Machines and Hullco Exteriors (“Hey, buddy!”); the finalists in the 51-200 employees category are InfoSystems, Rock City and Ruby Falls; and the finalists in the nonprofit category are Chattanooga Kids on the Block, Lifeline and McKamey Animal Center.
