U.S. District Judge Leslie R. Darr, was given authority to “perform such judicial duties in the Eastern District of Tennessee as he is willing and able to undertake.” Under the designation, Judge Darr was given full authority to act as a federal judge in any and all matters anywhere in the Eastern District of Tennessee and through September 1962.

Diane and Sue Davis of Old Union Community, near Dunlap, Sequatchie County, were winners in the Annual Rotary Club sponsored Junior Fat Cattle Show at Chattanooga Union Stock Yards. Diane Davis’ 950-pound Angus steer was judged grand champion and won the big Kroger trophy plus cash. Sue Davis’ 980-pound Hereford captured the reserve grand championship.

Mayor Olgiati said Wednesday that negotiations have been under way with Paul Carter, owner of a 60-acre tract in the Rivermont area, as the site for a new junior high school, but that no final agreement has been reached. The acquisition will be dependent upon annexation of the territory, which is now in litigation.
