Monday, March 13

The County Court’s Commission to screen prospects for election to the Hamilton County board of education has been reorganized with Lou Williams, Chattanooga business and civic leader, as chairman. Roy A. Scruggs, Chattanooga attorney, has resigned from the school board effective March 31. Another vacancy was created by the death of Samuel Wear Johnson, and the seven-year term of Davis Eldridge expires June 30.

Wednesday, March 15

Judge Leslie R. Darr observed his last day as U.S. District judge here Wednesday. He will become the only senior judge in Tennessee and the third senior district judge in the four state U.S. Sixth court.

Thursday, March 16

Harry A. DeButts of Washington, president of the Southern Railway Sys-tem, addressed the Rotary Club Thursday on “Progress, Performance, and Promise.” Mr. DeButts has been with Southern since 1916. He was named by his business contemporaries as of the “Fifty Foremost Business Leaders in America Today” in a nationwide poll conducted by Forbes Magazine in 1957.
