News from Nashville last night was that Gov. Rye had appointed W.B. Garvin of Chattanooga to succeed the late Judge Thomas M. McConnell as chancellor.

Mrs. P.S. Beebe of Columbus, Ohio is the guest of her mother, Mrs. Mary Read Frater. Mrs. Beebe was formerly Miss Caroline Frater.

Sunday, Feb. 7

The “Dansant Nationale,” which is to be given for the benefit of the Old Ladies Home, has chosen Mrs. Z.C. Patten, Jr., to be queen and Ross Faxon as k. The program will feature new dances in a cabaret scene by Miss Eleanor Salmon and her dancing partner, Joseph Capeheart.

Misses Irene and Marie Bennett were hostesses at the home of their aunt, Mrs. Sam Le Clereq on Missionary Ridge at a “500” party.

Monday, Feb. 8

American housewives are organizing to boycott white bread due to the rise in cost, and are using cornbread instead. White bread is now six cents a loaf.

Miss Josephine Whiteside and Miss Maude Whiteside will go to Sewanee Thursday for a visit with friends.

Tuesday, Feb. 9

Mr. and Mrs. James B. Clark announce the marriage of their

daughter, Mason McKay, to Austin M. Meuller. The wedding took place at the home of the bride. Dr. J. W. Moore of Centenary Church officiated. The young couple will live in St. Louis.

Miss Margaret McKinney is visiting relatives in Fayetteville, Miss.

Mr. and Mrs. R.T. Wright, Jr., will move into their new bungalow on the side of Missionary Ridge this week.

Wednesday, Feb. 10

Fire destroyed the home of Dr. N.C. Steele on Missionary Ridge yesterday and damaged the next door home of W.S. Palmer. Due to the efficient work of No. 8 Automobile Chemical Co., the Palmer house was saved. Dr. and Mrs. Steele were packed to go to Florida. Dr. and Mrs. Willard Steele were living with them.

Mrs. Emma Belle Miles is ill at Pine Breeze Sanatorium.

Miss Abbie Palmer will give a free recital of her pupils at the studio at 516 Wyatt St. Friday afternoon.

Thursday, Feb. 11

Mrs. W.C. Hahn and Miss Regina Hahn have returned from Brooklyn, N.Y., where they attended the wedding of C.M. Gretcher and Miss Hazen.

Miss Elizabeth Read has returned from Nashville, where she has been the guest of Miss Mamie Craig.

Friday, Feb. 12

Members of the faculty and students of the University of Chattanooga were honored with an open house at the home of President and Mrs. Hixson. This is one of the most enjoyable annual events on the school calendar.
