The 19th annual meeting of the Tennessee Hospital Service Association was held Monday at Read House. Chairman Roy McDonald announced the “year 1964 was the greatest year yet for service by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plan,” speaking to some 144 representatives of the Blue Cross member hospitals in Tennessee.
Monday, Feb. 8
Frank Paul Kendall, Sr., founder of Kendall Oil Co. (now Kayo) in Chattanooga died Sunday night in a local hospital.
Plans for a new $250,000 Shoney’s Big Boy Restaurant to be built in Brainerd were announced Monday by E.D. Latimer, president of the firm.
Tuesday, Feb. 9
A meeting to organize a private corporation to promote the 150th anniversary observance of Ross’s Landing, which later became Chattanooga, has been called for 3 p.m. Thursday at City Hall by Mayor Ralph Kelly.
Wednesday, Feb. 10
The Federal Housing Administration’s plans to speed up the sale of 180 homes it has acquired in this area were outlined by J.M. McCarter of the Knoxville district office of FHA at a meeting of the Chattanooga Board of Realtors at Read House Wednesday. McCarter said that FHA will spend $60,000 to $70,000 in the next six months in repairing the houses and getting them ready for market.
Thursday, Feb. 11
Charles H. Waugaman will assume the post of chief of the Tennessee Valley Authority’s power research staff on Feb. 14, G.O. Wessenauer, manager of power, announced Wednesday. Waugaman has been with the T.V.A. since 1951 as a mechanical engineer, and recently assistant to the director of power production.
The Chattanooga Board of Education Wednesday elected William D. Leber, a board member since 1954 as vice chairman, to succeed Raymond R. Witt, Jr., who participated in his final meeting Wednesday. David D. Coleman and Rev. H.H. Battle were sworn in as new members of the board.
Friday, Feb. 12
Lt. Col. Herbert L. Cartwright, Jr., was designated Wednesday by Mayor Kelly as military projects officer for Chattanooga’s observance of Armed Forces Week. Lt. Col. Cartwright will share with S.V. O’Lenic, civilian chairman for the event, the coordination of all activities during the Memorial Week event May 9-14.
