Formers Titans Brown, Kern get Super Bowl shot

The matchup for Super Bowl LVII is now set, and the Philadelphia Eagles will take on the Kansas City Chiefs Feb. 12 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

We’ll wait until next week to reveal our Super Bowl prediction and our four downs keys to the game. But for fans of the Titans, their eyes will mostly be on the Eagles for two good reasons.

First off, Titans fans naturally have to have a bit of jealousy in seeing their best wide receiver in A.J. Brown helping the Eagles to the Super Bowl after former GM Jon Robinson shuttled him there during the draft after he could not come to terms on a contract extension and big payday.

Big money was something that Brown got immediately from the Eagles, who are now reaping the reward of that big payoff to Brown. The fourth-year wide receiver proved his worth, setting career highs with 88 catches and 1,496 receiving yards, just 99 yards shy of what the entire Titans receiving corps produced for the whole season.

The other Titans-related angle to watch has a bit better feel for Titans fans. Longtime punter Brett Kern, who was cut at the end of training camp when the Titans opted to go with rookie Ryan Stonehouse, latched on with the Eagles in December when Arryn Siposs was lost to an injury.

Kern toiled with the Titans franchise from 2009 through 2022 and only once got as far as the conference championship game. Now, he has a chance to pull off a feat similar to what former Titans teammate Ryan Succop was able to do a couple of years ago – leave the Titans and finally get a ring, in Succop’s case with Tampa Bay.

Despite the bad taste the A.J. Brown saga still leaves in Titans’ fans mouths, the thought of Kern finally getting a Super Bowl win might make that bitter pill a bit easier for folks in Tennessee to swallow.
