The Chattanooga Film Festival has announced the first wave of titles for its 2020 installment. Taking place April 16-19 at Songbirds Guitar Museum, CFF will offer four days of films, events and workshops.
CFF will screen the sci-fi drama “Synchronic” on opening night. The film revolves around two New Orleans paramedics who encounter a series of deaths linked to a designer drug with bizarre effects.
“To say more would rob viewers of one of the most unique and memorable movie-going experiences they’re likely to have in 2020,” says CFF founder Chris Dortch.
Horror studio Fangoria will premiere its 2020 reimagining of the 1995 cult favorite “Castle Freak” at midnight on opening night. The story follows Rebecca and her friends as they travel to Albania to manage her unexpected inheritance of a castle from her long-lost mother. Once there, they learn Rebecca’s family harbored dark secrets with potentially cosmic implications.
The world premiere of filmmaker Rob Grant’s “65 Days of Static” will close the festival. Audiences who miss the screening at CFF will never have a chance to see the film again, as Grant will destroy the only copy of the film following the screening.
“In an era when films are too often referred to as ‘content,’ Grant’s new work and its demise sends a powerful message that it’s the process and not the product that’s important,” Dortch says.
“With the amount of media available at our fingertips, I’ve been feeling dread about how disposable it all feels. This is an experiment in taking that to an extreme conclusion,” Grant says. “We aren’t destroying a film, we’re making it disposable.”
The first film set for the CFF’s Sonic Cinema block is Rob Galluzzo’s documentary “Analog Love,” which explores the art of the mix tape and why communication through music is still popular today.
“Analog Love” mix tape booths will be open during the festival with a selection of records, CDs and cassettes attendees can use to assemble a mix of their own.
Also slated for 2020 is the directorial debut of Zach Lamplugh’s “The Vice Guide to Bigfoot,” a satire described as “Spinal Tap” meets “The Blair Witch Project.”
Adding to the diverse lineup comes “Cargo,” an Indian sci-fi drama directed by Arati Kadav. Regarding the film, the Huffington Post says, “Kadav’s astonishing vision fuels this Indian sci-fi tour de force and infuses it with startling detail.”
CFF 2020 VIP Badges are on sale at chattfilmfest.org. Individual tickets for films and events will be available closer to the start of the festival.
