I am a sucker for the scent of freshly cleaned clothes. Every part of me loves to pull our clothes out of the dryer and smell the Sun Blossom scent that Downy carries. It is the yellow bottle and it seems as if they bottled the sunshine and spring flowers!
I also love to snuggle my face into my husband’s clothes and ask “Who washes your clothes, they smell so good?” I always get the lovely answer of “My beautiful wife.” He likes to keep me buttered up because he always needs something from me.
As much as I love the scent and the softness, I despise the amount of money the softener cost. It also makes me angry when I pull out my clothes and there are “grease” spots all over them.
I have tried every possible way to prevent these spots without success until now. I started using these dryer sponges about two weeks ago and so far, I am in love with them. Not only is my Downy going to last me forever now, which obviously cuts down the cost issue dramatically, but I also have not had one problem with the unsightly spots.
Also, I’ve taken the time to share my secret with you!
Items needed:
– liquid fabric softener
– water
– plastic storage bin with lid
– Six sponges cut in half lengthwise
Cut the sponges lengthwise to start, which will provide 12 strips. In the plastic bin, mix the softener and water with a ratio of 1:2. My plastic container held six cups of water to 3 cups of softener.
Place the sponges in the mixture and then pop the lid to the container on. Now you are done! Where you are ready to dry a load of clothes, use the dryer sponges and squeeze out the excess liquid; leaving some, and toss into the dryer with the wet clothes.
Once the laundry is done, toss the sponge back into the bucket so it can be reused and enjoy the softness and smell of the laundry.
Now, I know of a couple of people who did their ratio to 2:1, which is fine if you prefer. I need mine more diluted than that due to my son’s eczema and simply for the fact I want to be able to get as much as I can for the money.
Thankfully now those unsightly spots are no longer a problem. If you decide to use them, know that the ratio can be flipped for a stronger scent.
Having multiple sponges will eliminate having to dig through clothes and find the one that was just used when there are back-to-back loads going in.
Happy laundry day! I hope your clothes come out smelling like sunshine and flowers. Don’t be scared to save that money!
