Girls Preparatory School Head of School Megan Cover arrived in New York City last week to begin a two-week program for independent and international school heads at the Klingenstein Center at Columbia University’s Teachers College.
Cover joins leaders from South Carolina, New Jersey, Norway, Virginia, Korea, St. Louis, Michigan, India, Egypt, Connecticut, Oregon and South Africa in this prestigious program.
Throughout the two-week fellowship, the 15-member cohort will tackle all areas of independent school leadership through collaboration and dialogue while problem-solving how to best serve students.
“This is quite an honor, not simply for me professionally, but for GPS,” Cover says. “The fully-funded program is highly competitive, and participants are chosen based on many different factors, including the mission, values and vision of the schools in which we serve. I’m excited to share what GPS does well and learn what we can do better.”
The core curriculum will allow participants to discuss current educational issues and dive into educational philosophy and ethics. They’ll also engage in design thinking and case study work with Klingenstein master’s students and visit independent schools in New York City to observe a variety of programs and ideas.
TVFCU names Woodman director, mortgage lending
Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union has named Andy Woodman director of mortgage lending. This is a new position within TVFCU.
Woodman has 27 years of experience in the bank, broker and credit union space. His most recent seven-year tenure in a similar role was at Georgia United Credit Union in Duluth, Georgia.
Originally from Whiting, New Jersey, Woodman moved to Roswell, Georgia at a young age. He earned a bachelor’s degree in risk management and insurance from Georgia State.
Aside from his work, Woodman holds the position of president at the Southeast Credit Union Real Estate Network and has been a board member since 2017.
HHM welcomes new partner
HHM Certified Public Accountants has added Brock Oliver as a partner in the firm’s Chattanooga office. Oliver brings over a decade of accounting experience to HHM.
Oliver has spent much of his career specializing in auditing clients in a variety of industries, including nonprofit and higher education organizations. He played a role in launching his former firm’s Nashville office and helped to lead the higher education practice in the Southeast.
Oliver is a native of Chattanooga. He lettered four years (2008-2011) as the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga’s football team’s long snapper while earning his Bachelor of Science in business administration.
Oliver is a member of Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants.
