Sockwell began its Honor Our Heroes campaign in April as a way to recognize and support front-line workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to awarding COVID-19 response “heroes” pairs of compression socks, the company donated $1 for every “Honor Our Heroes” sock sold to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga School of Nursing.

Sockwell presented a check for $1,650 to chief medical officer and director of the UTC School of Nursing, Dr. Chris Smith, on Jan. 27.

“Our front-line medical workers have shouldered an incredible load in helping millions of Americans battle COVID-19,” say Sockwell partners Thomas Lee and Jim Markley. “The team at Sockwell created the Honor Our Heroes campaign to recognize the sacrifice our medical professionals have made.”

In addition to the cash donation, Sockwell donated hundreds of socks to front-line workers through 2020, including a sock donation to the entire COVID-19 response team at Erlanger Hospital in December.

Smith says the extra money will enable the program to purchase more personal protective equipment with dipping into the university’s funds.

Founded in 2011 as a division of hosiery company Goodhew, Sockwell manufactures a range of therapeutic socks in Chattanooga and sells them globally.
