The Chattanooga Symphony & Opera will present “A Classical Christmas” Friday, Dec. 4, 7 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 5, 3 p.m., at The Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul.
Part of the First Horizon Foundation Instrumental Series, the program will feature classical works of the season, including Jolivet’s Pastoreles “de Noel,” Holst’s “Paul the Apostle” and Haydn’s “Symphony No. 26.”
“I’m excited to present a beautiful program of Jolivet’s trio for flute, bassoon and harp,” says Kayoko Dan, CSO music director. “This is a serene work, with each movement describing a scene of Christmas. Also, on the program will be Haydn’s ‘Symphony No. 26,’ which for a time was nicknamed ‘Weihnachten,’ or ‘Christmas,’ and Holst’s St. Paul suite, which quotes ‘Greensleeves’ in the last movement and will prominently feature associate concertmaster Josh Holritz.”
Concerts in the First Horizon Foundation Instrumental Series feature smaller ensembles of musicians, limited audience sizes and socially distanced seating. Those who prefer to watch the program from home can purchase a livestream access ticket for the Dec. 4 performance for $10.
Tickets will not be sold at the venue and attendees will be required to wear masks, follow social distancing guidelines and adhere to the CSO’s COVID-19 related concert health and safety guidelines, which can be found at chattanoogasymphony.org/concert-health-safety.
