The Metropolitan Charter Commission Friday appointed Will Allen Wilkerson, a veteran Chattanooga lawyer experienced in government matters, as its legal counsel.
Tennessee’s County Clerks Association has thrown its support to a bill fixing a single state license fee for all automobiles, according to County Court Clerk David M. Ramsey. Hamilton County registers 80,000 to 90,000 automobiles annually. Residents currently pay $10 per year to license a small, or compact, car and $13.50 for a heavier model. These fees include 50 cents for the county court clerk.
The annual party of the Duncan Hills Garden Club was held recently at the Dinner Party Restaurant with the husbands of members as special guests. Mrs. William Slatery presided. Co-hostesses were Mrs. Buford Brannon and Mrs. Hoyt Lewis.
Another Pete Fountain concert is scheduled January 18, according to George Elder II, who successfully promoted the concert last January for the benefit of the March of Dimes.

Dr. H. Renner has sold the Renner Apartments at Houston and McCallie Avenue to American National Bank and Trust as trustee for approximately $80,000. W.D. Skiles, Jr., of Skiles Realty handled the transaction.
Mrs. J. Otis Brown and Mrs. Norman Miller’s silver and crystal tea for Miss Janice Lawrence, bride elect of J. Max Love, will be from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Brown home at 3829 Mission View Avenue.

The United States plans to land an expeditionary force of robot detectives on Mars in 1966 to search for life there. A space agency official announced the date and described ingenious devices being developed or studied to carry out the exciting assignment.
Real estate transactions reached an all-time high in Chattanooga and Hamilton County during 1962, exceeding the previous record set in 1961. James R. Chamberlain, Realtor, said the records at the courthouse show property valued at $75,027,125.05 changed hands in 1962.
Commissioner McInturff signed a contract on behalf of the City Commission to lease the Tivoli Theater for two years at $22,000 a year, effective January 1. Renovations will start Wednesday under the direction of architect James R. Franklin.
Traffic accidents claimed 42 lives in Chattanooga and Hamilton County in 1962.

The state highway department has asked the city to delay appraisal of property to be acquired for the freeway across Missionary Ridge pending a change in policy expected after Governor-elect Frank Clement is inaugurated, Mayor Olgiati said.

Dr. Marion M. Young, former health officer for Cumberland, Bledsoe and Rhea Counties, with headquarters at Crossville, Wednesday took over his new duties as director of the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Health Department.
Thursday, January 3
Walter P. Ellis has been made a partner and John W. Tallman an associate at the law firm of Roberts and Weill, it was announced Wednesday. The name of the firm will be Roberts, Weill and Ellis.
Friday, January 4
Mrs. Dorothy Greve McAllester died in a hospital in Athens, Ga., Wednesday after a brief illness. She was married to the late Samuel J. McAllester, a prominent Chattanooga attorney in July 1957. They resided on Lookout Mountain until his sudden death from a heart attack in December of that year.
Malone J. Everett has been appointed manager of the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company’s Chattanooga general agency in the Pioneer Bank Building.
