C-SPAN reveals Chattanooga history during week-long visit

Mayor Andy Berke, Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger, Chattanooga History Center’s Executive Director Dr. Daryl Black, and Comcast welcomed national network C-SPAN as they kicked off a week-long visit to record and feature the city’s history and literary life.

On Monday, Dec. 16 at the Chattanooga History Center, C-SPAN coordinating producer Debbie Lamb revealed the stories and segments that would be explored - and why Chattanooga was chosen as one of 20 U.S. communities to be visited on the 2013 Cities Tour. During their time in Chattanooga, C-SPAN representatives also conducted community outreach, explaining why they are in the city and how Chattanoogans can utilize C-SPAN’s free resources.

The stories gathered by the video crews will be shown on non-fiction book channel Book TV (on C-SPAN2, Comcast channel 104) and history channel American History TV (on C-SPAN3, Comcast channel 105) during C-SPAN’s special Chattanooga weekend January 18-19.

Working with its cable partners, the C-SPAN producing team took specially outfitted Local Content Vehicles into Chattanooga starting Monday, Dec. 16, visiting various literary and historic sites to interview local historians, authors, and civic leaders over the week.

C-SPAN is available in Chattanooga on Comcast channels 62 and 95.
