“Interstellar,” the science-fiction thriller starring Matthew McConaughey, will play at the Tennessee Aquarium IMAX Theater, the region’s largest indoor movie screen, through Jan. 31.
The film begins in the future, when global crop failures and drought are rendering Earth uninhabitable. When a wormhole, which theoretically can connect widely-separated regions of space, is discovered, explorers and scientists unite to embark on a search for another planet that could become mankind’s new home.
Continuing the legacy begun by film director Christopher Nolan and his use of IMAX cameras in “The Dark Knight” and “The Dark Knight Rises,” more than one hour of Interstellar was shot using IMAX cameras. At the Tennessee Aquarium IMAX Theater, these sequences will expand to fill the 66 feet by 89 feet screen.
According to McConaughey, “Interstellar” is best experienced on a giant screen. “You’re not going to get the beauty of film, and you’re not going to get the scope Christopher Nolan put on the screen, unless you see it in IMAX,” he said.
“When I saw this film, it was at an IMAX theater, and I literally could not breathe,” said Jessica Chastain, who stars as Murph. “It felt like I was in space.”
“Interstellar” is rated PG-13, and has a running time of two hours and 49 minutes.
The adult ticket price is $12.95. In addition to normal concessions, beer and wine will be available for purchase during evening special event screenings.
