Legal Aid receives Alzheimer’s grant from Pat Summitt Foundation

The Pat Summitt Foundation has awarded Legal Aid of East Tennessee a $20,000 Legal Care Project grant.

Legal Aid will use the funds to help East Tennesseans suffering from Alzheimer’s and their caregivers establish power of attorney or conservatorship.

“The Legal Care Project is a vital new resource that will help caregivers care for their loved ones who are suffering from a debilitating disease,” says Debra House, executive director of Legal Aid of East Tennessee. “LAET is honored to receive this grant and further the important work of the foundation, which meant so much to Pat.”

“We frequently hear about the legal challenges caregivers face when providing care for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia,” says Morgan Vance, director of advancement of the Pat Summitt Foundation. “We hope this grant will allow Legal Aid of East Tennessee to reach more caregivers and families and provide them peace of mind.”

Caregivers of those with Alzheimer’s disease face many challenges, not the least of which is establishing the legal relationship necessary to attend to the needs of their loved ones, LAET notes in a news release.

“The funding will give everyone the ability to care for loved ones suffering from Alzheimer’s, regardless of their income, background or living situation,” the release reads.
