Leighton L. Trent, who retired Friday as executive of the Industrial and Downtown branches of the YMCA, was honored Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church. Approximately 60 persons were present to honor Mr. Trent, who’s been active for over 40 years in the work of the Young Men’s Christian Association.
Warren W. Billings, vice president and general manager of Billings Moving & Storage Co., Inc., announced Friday that he had purchased a 2.9 acre tract from J. Gilbert Stein, owner and developer of Shallowford Industrial Park. The facility will represent an investment of over $100,000. Construction of the new warehouse will be started about Jan. 1.

The Chattanooga Junior Chamber of Commerce is preparing for selection of the City’s “Outstanding Young Man for 1964,” Paul Johnson, Jaycee president, and John Tucker, awards chairman, announced Saturday. The award has been presented annually since 1935.
Monday, Dec. 21
Today marks the 125th anniversary of the incorporation of the City of Chattanooga by the state legislature. City Historian, Dr. James W. Livingood of the University of Chattanooga, and Gilbert Gavan, participated in ceremonies with the City Commission.

Two automobile dealers Monday sharply criticized the Chattanooga Housing Authority, citing alleged “inconsistencies” in action which rescinded earlier rezoning of two Golden Gateway parcels to allow consideration of a proposed motor and two auto agencies, J.E. Lawrence, president of Citizens Motor Co., and Stokely Doster, president of Lawrence-Doster Motor Co., announced.

Arnold Steinhardt, outstanding American violinist who made his debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra at 14, will appear as guest soloist with the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra Jan. 12 at 8:15 p.m. at the Tivoli Theatre.
Thursday, Dec. 24
Tennessee’s “Man of the Year,” according to Edward B. Smith, a veteran columnist and associate editor of the Knoxville News-Sentinel, is Chattanooga’s Judge Frank Wilson, who presides over the U.S. District Court here. The designation is deserved, Mr. Smith believes, on the basis of Judge Wilson’s handling of the James Hoffa trial here early in 1964.
