The Governor’s Council for Judicial Appointments will consider five candidates when it meets to select nominees for the Tennessee Supreme Court vacancy created by the retirement of the Honorable Sharon G. Lee, effective Aug. 31.
The applicants include Court of Criminal Appeals Judge Tom Greenholtz.
Greenholtz graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1999. After passing the bar, he worked as a law clerk to William Barker at the Tennessee Supreme Court.
Greenholtz has also worked with the Chattanooga firms of Chambliss, Bahner & Stophel; Shumacker, Witt, Gaither & Whitaker; and Summers & Wyatt.
Gov. Bill Lee Shumaker appointed Greenholtz to serve as a judge on the eastern section of the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals this year.
Greenholtz has also served as an adjunct professor of political science at UT Chattanooga. He currently serves on the board of Orange Grove Center and previously served on the boards of Chambliss Center for Children, St. Peter’s Episcopal School, the Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga and the United Way of Greater Chattanooga.
The council will hold a public meeting to consider the candidates Wednesday, Jan. 4, at the Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy in Knoxville at 9 a.m. Members of the public may attend the public hearing and express objections concerning the applicants for the vacancy.
The council is expected to vote immediately following the interviews and will forward three names to Lee for his consideration.
