The Junior League presented a big, beautiful musical entertainment at the Memorial Auditorium for the children and adults of Chattanooga as a Christmas present. The Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra presented a Christmas concert. The Junior League choir was heard in several songs.
Sunday, Dec. 12
New officers for the Third District Dental Society were installed at a formal banquet Saturday night at the Chattanooga Golf and Country Club. Installed were Dr. James F. Ford, president; Dr. Glenn M. Dean, Jr., president-elect; Dr. C. Douglas Brooks, secretary; and Dr. Robert E. Long, treasurer. Dr. James A. Phillips, retiring president has been elected a trustee to the Tennessee State Dental Association.
Monday, Dec. 13
Sunday afternoon, the annual December concert of the University of Chattanooga, directed by Miss Isa McIlwraith, was presented in Patten Chapel. The choir composed of 47 students of unusual musical ability gave an outstanding performance.
Tuesday, Dec. 14
Cathy Baker, 12-year-old daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Merton Baker, was named “Athlete of the Year” and top swimmer at the Chamber of Commerce’s annual All-Sports Banquet Tuesday night at Patten Hotel. Cathy broke one national swim record and tied another. She holds 14 Southeastern AAU marks and has tied a 15th.
Wednesday, Dec. 15
The McCallie School board of trustees established a memorial fund in honor of Dr. Robert L. McCallie, who died of a heart attack Nov. 22 after serving 32 years on the McCallie faculty - the last 17 years as headmaster. The Robert L. McCallie Memorial Fund will be used to enlarge McCallie’s permanent endowment.
Thursday, Dec. 16
John L. Hutcheson III, who has served as president of Cleveland Woolens, a division of Burlington Industries, Inc., in Cleveland, Tenn., for the past three years, has resigned in order to engage in another business. He will be succeeded by Stephen O. Addison, who has been manufacturing manager of Cleveland Woolens since 1961.
Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Schlesinger celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary at their home in Louise Terrace Apts.
Friday, Dec. 17
Promotions of four members of the American National Bank and Trust Co. were announced by Sam I. Yarnell, board chairman, following a directors meeting Tuesday. J. Ralston Wells and Ralph M. Killebrew were elected vice presidents and trust officers, Theodore W. Mills was named vice president of the business development department, and James C. Crockett was elected assistant vice-president and manager of the Brainerd Branch.
