What was happening in Chattanooga in 1960
Saturday, December 10
Fire destroyed the Chattanooga Tent & Awning Company, 1085 Bailey Ave. late Friday night causing a loss estimated at $125,000. Seven companies of fireman battled the blaze in sub-freezing weather.
Sunday, December 11
The new Brainerd post office was dedicated Saturday morning. Percy L. Coleman of Memphis, regional postal installations manager, delivered the principal address. Congressman J.B. Frazier presented Postmaster O.M. Spence with a 50-star nylon American flag. Clifton Ward, chairman of the dedication service sponsored by the Brainerd Kiwanis Club, presided.
Monday, December 12
Mayor Olgiati has told officials of the Louisville & Nashville Railroad that the City of Chattanooga plans to acquire the property in the Union Station area for a civic center. The mayor said he hoped the project will be a joint undertaking of the city and county governments.
Tuesday, December 13
C. Lamar Ireland of Gilman Paint & Varnish Company was elected president of the National Association of Credit Management, Inc., Cherokee Unit at a dinner meeting Tuesday evening in Hotel Patten. He succeeds H.H. Swafford of Duff Bros., Inc.
