Construction on The Commons in Collegedale is complete, giving Collegedale Market vendors a covered venue where they can sell their goods year-round. The growing bazaar will hold its second annual Christmas Market inside the barn-like space, which is fitted with a large wood-burning fireplace. Around 50 vendors will be selling soaps, jewelry, pottery, specialty food items and more Saturday, Nov. 24 and Sunday, Nov. 25 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Santa will be on hand for photos from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. both days.
Kayoko Dan, Michael McCallie duo
Tim Hinck has embarked on an unusual experiment over the past year: create a sprawling work of mixed chamber music for each section’s instrumentation as dictated by whatever chance commission comes along. He calls this work “Terraform.”
Previous sections of this piece have included commissions for soprano and mixed ensemble (“Terraform I: brook,” premiered at the University of Tennessee), for solo piano (“Terraform II: sandstone,” premiered at a distillery in Chattanooga), and for baritone and mixed ensemble (“Terraform III: Four thirty-four Buehler’s Market,” premiered at the Juilliard School in New York).
The fourth and final “Terraform” is in response to a request for music for flute and guitar, commissioned by Michael McCallie of Guitar Chattanooga. Flutist Kayoko Dan (conductor of the Chattanooga Symphony & Opera) will join McCallie for the premiere, which will take place Thursday, Nov. 29 at 7:30 p.m. at Barking Legs Theater, 1307 Dodds Ave.
Chattanooga Market at the Convention Center
The Downtown Chattanooga Market is moving indoors for the final three weekends of the 2018 season. Vendors will be at the Chattanooga Convention Center Dec. 1-2, 8-9 and 15-16. The market will be open Saturdays from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
Guided hike on the Cumberland Trail
Join Outdoor Chattanooga, 200 River St. in Coolidge Park, for a guided hike on the Cumberland Trail on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 1 p.m. Trained guides will lead registered participants on a five-mile hike that’s rated as moderately strenuous to explore a unique section of the trail. Symphony presents A Classical Christmas
The Chattanooga Symphony & Opera continues its Sunday Chamber Concert Series with “A Classical Christmas” on Sunday, Dec. 2 at 3 p.m. at the Chattanooga State Community College Humanities Theatre. This concert features works from Ola Gjeilo’s “Christmas Carols for Chorus,” Elgar’s “Chanson de Nuit & Chanson du Matin,” and Reger’s “Weihnachten.”

Candle lighting service
Erlanger Health System will present the 24th annual Moments to Share candle lighting service on Wednesday, Dec. 5 beginning at 7 p.m. at the Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul, 214 E. 8th St.
Erlanger invites families who have suffered the loss of a baby before, during, or after birth to come together during the holiday season to honor the memory of their child. Families are encouraged to bring poems, pictures and precious memories of their baby to display throughout the service.

Crime prevention training for business owners, managers
The Chattanooga Police Department is sponsoring free crime prevention training designed for business owners and managers who are interested in making their facility and employees as safe as possible.
A nationally accredited crime prevention specialist from the University of Tennessee’s Law Enforcement Innovation Center will cover lighting, access control, video surveillance, emergency management, glazing, environmental design and more during the four-hour session. The instruction will incorporate crime prevention through environmental design principles, security and vulnerability assessments.
The training is scheduled for Jan. 9 from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Family Justice Center, 5705 Uptain Road. Register
