The Tennessee River Improvement Association has greatest convention in its history. The meeting was held in South Pittsburg, Tenn., Friday for the purpose of planning permanent improvements of the Tennessee River and its tributaries to make it navigable all year. The cost will be $6,700,000 for the 652 miles. John A. Patten was re-elected head of the Association.
Chief Justice John K. Shields of the Tennessee Supreme Court will be married December 7 in New York City to Mrs. Jeanette D. Cowan, member of a prominent Knoxville family and widow of the late James D. Cowan of Knoxville.
Mr. and Mrs. Eakin of Cartersville, Ga., who are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Erwin on Missionary Ridge, will leave for their home Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Erwin entertained in their honor Friday night.

Dr. and Mrs. Henry LeHardy entertained with a house warming at their new home on Lindsay Street. This is one of a series planned for their friends.
Mrs. Warner McCall of St. Louis will come this week to visit Mr. and Mrs. Howard McCall and to attend the Lanier-Jones wedding.
Mrs. Andrew Hall Johnston and children of Marion, N.C., will spend the Thanksgiving holidays with Mr. and Mrs. W.P. McBroom.
Monday, November 18
Miss Maude Merritt of Clarksville is the guest of Misses Mamie and Sarah Bright on Oak Street.
Mrs. Head of Tunnel Hill, Ga., has returned to her home after a visit with Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Fox. Miss Elizabeth Fox accompanied her home.
Tuesday, November 19
Arthur Paty, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. A.A. Paty, is ill at his home on Bailey Avenue.
Dr. George R. West will return home today from New York. He will be accompanied by his niece, Mrs. Fred Newell, who will visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.G. Oehmig, on Fifth Street.
Miss Marie Burke will accompany Mrs. Herbert E. Bowman to Holly Springs, Miss., to attend the wedding of Harris Gholson to Miss Janet Fort.
Miss Minerva Pope of Jasper returned home Sunday after a visit with Judge and Mrs. Lewis Shepherd of Altamede Farm.
Coach J. W. Heisman of Georgia Tech has been retained for another five-year period, the Athletic Association announced Monday night. This year’s team is a sample of his coaching ability. Very few men have been injured, his regular 11 having played in every game or part of every game this year.
Wednesday, November 20
Mr. and Mrs. Z.C. Patten, Jr., are at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York for several days.
Mrs. Lee Pyron of St. Louis will remain the guest of Mrs. Stephen Doughton for several weeks longer.
A “Joy Meeting” was held at Baylor School to get ready for the McCallie-Baylor game Thursday. The game will be played at Olympia Park. Coaches Whiteside and Broxton are working hard on their squad, while George Briggs is drilling his McCallie team hard with another win in mind.
Thursday, November 21
Miss Annie Keith Frazier, daughter of Senator and Mrs. J.B. Frazier, was married to Robert Uugent Summerville of Greenville, Miss., Wednesday night at Centenary Church. Mrs. G.M. Smartt played the nuptial music. Dr. J.A. Burroughs, presiding elder of this district, and Dr. J.C. Uugent of New Castle, Ky., officiated at the wedding. Following a reception, the young couple left for a Northern honeymoon. They will reside in Greenville, Miss.
Mrs. D.L. Grayson will entertain with a luncheon at the English Tea Room in honor of Mrs. Rufus Carswell of New Orleans and Mrs. Granville Lewis of Knoxville.
Mrs. R.C. Campbell will entertain with an informal tea at her home on Oak Street in honor of Miss Ruth Charlton of Fall River, Mass., who is the guest of Misses Willie and Grace Campbell.
Friday, November 22
A wedding of much social interest last night was that of Miss Katherine Lanier and Gaither L. Jones of Beaumont, Texas. The ceremony was performed by Dr. Stuart, who had christened the bride. Following a reception, the young couple left for a wedding trip. They will reside at the Crosby Hotel in Beaumont.
Miss Helen Kline will sing at the meeting of the Literary Society of the Girl’s Preparatory School today. Sunday, she will sing for the Ramsey Class at Centenary Church.
City High and Central High will settle the City Championship Saturday. McCallie defeating Baylor Thursday narrowed the field. The game will be played at Chamberlain Field.
