Provident Life and Accident Insurance Thursday night honored 45 firms and institutions established in Chattanooga 75 years ago. President Robert L. Maclellan was master of ceremony.
The technical advisory committee to the Chattanooga Housing Authority Friday recommended approval of the proposal by Hefter Construction of Miami for a $2,000,000 residential and commercial development in the Golden Gateway, Herbert Banks, executive director of the CHA, reported.
Sunday, November 18
Kenneth D. Cochrane began his service as minister of music at First Baptist Church Sunday. Mr. Cochrane comes to Chattanooga from Augusta, Ga., where he has served in the same capacity at the First Baptist Church there for the past eight years.
Dr. Lee Roberson celebrated his 20th anniversary Sunday as pastor of the Highland Park Baptist Church.
Monday, November 19
The University of Chattanooga Wednesday launched a campaign to raise $1,250,000 for a new gymnasium and swimming pool. Dr. James L. Fowle, pastor of First Presbyterian Church and a UC trustee, was appointed general chairman of the campaign. Dr. S.F. Bretske will serve as executive director of the campaign.
Twenty-four persons, including three children, became citizens of the United States Monday morning in naturalization proceedings before U.S. District Judge Frank W. Wilson.

A new company to manufacture tufted carpets under the trade name of Bemporad Carpet Mills has been announced in New York by R.F.C. Bemporad, chairman of the board. The new enterprise will operate Croft Carpet Mills plant six in Fort Oglethorpe.
J.P.W. Brown, president of Plymouth Laundry, has been elected treasurer of the National Society for Crippled Children and Adults at the society’s annual convention in Miami Beach, Fla. Carl A. Morring, Jr., of Huntsville, Ala., was elected president of the organization. He succeeds Elwood M. Brooks of Denver, Colo.

Charles O. Hon, Jr., president of Title Guaranty and Trust, was elected chairman of the Chattanooga Better Housing Commission for 1963 at the monthly meeting Wednesday. Mrs. Ruth K. Faris, Realtor and secretary of the commission, was named vice-chairman.
“The Chattanooga Story” was presented by John N. Popham at the Rotary Club Wednesday in Hotel Patten. Popham presented Chattanooga’s story of progress in the All-American City awards program last Friday in Washington.
Thursday, November 22
Tennessee Egg, which processes and distributes most of the chickens and turkeys in this area, reported that 30,000 turkeys were eaten in the Chattanooga area on Thanksgiving.
Friday, November 23
Santa Claus arrived at East Gate Center by helicopter Friday afternoon at Miracle Mall.
A gift of $1,000 from an anonymous donor for the purchase of new books has been received by the Chattanooga Public Library, Miss Elizabeth Edwards, librarian, reported to the library board. Miss Edwards also announced that the medical library of some 6,941 books will be transferred to Erlanger Hospital.
Chattanooga’s Christmas street lights will be turned on Friday afternoon.
