David Haigh Dawson, vice president, director, and member of the executive committee of the Du Pont Co., will be principal speaker at the 88th annual dinner meeting of the Greater Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce Thursday, Jan. 14 in the Hotel Patten, it was announced Saturday by Carter Parham, Chamber president, and J.R. McGuff, activities committee chairman.

Sunday, Nov. 15

Construction of a $65,000 ultra-modern community center for the Hixson area has begun under the auspices of Hixson Utility District, Ira P. Johns, president of the board of commissioners, announced.

Monday, Nov. 16

Cases containing 2,157 pounds of drug samples collected from Chattanooga doctors by the Women’s Auxiliary to the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Medical Society will be sent to the World Medical Relief Center in Detroit to be distributed to the world’s destitute ill. They were packaged by Fillauer Surgical Supplies and will be sent by Superior Trucking Co.

Tuesday, Nov. 17

David F.S. Johnson was elected president of the Chattanooga Automobile Club to succeed Preston P. Jordan. Otis Segler was elected first vice president and John H. Clark, treasurer.

Wednesday, Nov. 18

Combustion Engineering, Inc. will be given a $2.25 million contract to manufacture nine boilers for the U.S. Navy. The units are to be made in the company’s Chattanooga plant. The contract will increase to 37 the total of boilers Combustion is building for Naval vessels.

Thursday, Nov. 19

A new Red Food Stores supermarket opened Thursday in the Golden Gateway. Grady Parham, Red Food Stores president, said the new supermarket, the largest and most modernly equipped in the entire chain, represents an investment of $350,000 or more.

Friday, Nov. 20

Banks here will distribute $1,039,139 to 1964 Christmas Savings Club members, the Chattanooga Clearing House Association reported.
