Sunday, November 13
The new 12-classroom elementary school to be built on Signal Mountain will be known as the Wilkes T. Thrasher School. The Hamilton County Board of Education voted unanimously to name the school for the late Judge Thrasher upon the recommendation of Superintendent Sam P. McConnell.

Monday, November 14
Estil Varner, a member of the county court clerk’s staff since 1940, Monday was promoted by County Court Clerk David M. Ramsey to the post of chief deputy in the office. Joseph J. Tocco was promoted to assistant chief deputy.

Wednesday, November 16
Work is underway razing the old buildings adjoining the Read House for the new six-story motor hotel costing more than $1,000,000. Construction of the new Read House Motor Hotel will start in December.

Thursday, November 17
John C. Stophel of the firm of Taber, Chambliss & Stophel was guest speaker at the meeting of the Chattanooga chapter of the National Association of Cost Accountants at Hotel Patten, speaking on the subject “Current Corporation Tax Problems.”
