Saturday, Oct. 7, 1916

C.M. Willingham is seriously ill at his home on Vine Street.

Baylor School won the game today from Brandon. The teams were well matched. The local backfields of Coughlin, Hall, Crumbliss, Bennett, Bob Hill, and Dizeen were fast on catching the ball and making touchdowns. Score: 26-0.

Sunday, Oct. 8

Mr. and Mrs. Nick Dobbs announce the wedding of Miss Minnie Dobbs and P.J. Dalhouse will take place Oct. 26 at the bride’s home on Rossville Boulevard. There will be no attendants, and guest will be only relatives and close friends. The future Mr. and Mrs. Dalhouse will take a Western trip before going to Odessa, Miss., to reside.

Monday, Oct. 9

Dr. Jonathan Waverly Bachman is celebrating his 79th birthday today. He has served the First Presbyterian Church for 43 years as pastor. A beautiful poem, “The Old Shepherd,” was written by Robert Cornell to honor Dr. Bachman.

Tuesday, Oct. 10

The many friends of Miss Katherine Kaufman and Hugh Lynn Thatcher last night filled St. Paul’s Episcopal Church for their wedding. Dr. Loaring Clark officiated.

Jack Williams of West Virginia has joined Mrs. Williams in a visit with Mr. and Mrs. T.H. Wagner.

Wednesday, Oct. 11

Chattanoogans are saddened by the death of the beloved Dr. J.A. Chambliss at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Services will be held at the First Baptist Church, with Dr. W.F. Powell and Dr. J.W. Bachman officiating. Dr. Chambliss is the father of Alex and Samuel M. Chambliss of Chattanooga and R.M. Chambliss of Brownsville, Tenn. Mrs. Chambliss and two daughters also survive.

Thursday, Oct. 12

Yesterday at noon, Miss Annie May Jones and Garner Watkins were married in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church by the Rev. Loaring Clark. Following the wedding, they left for a trip to New Orleans and Cuba. Upon their return, the couple will live in the Elizabeth Apartments.

Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Leach will return the first of the week from a stay in New Orleans.
