Fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon Dr. Joshua Lawson has joined the medical staff at Parkridge Health System. Lawson is a hip and knee replacement specialist with Orthopedic Surgical Specialists and sees patients in his office on the Parkridge Medical Center campus.
A Chattanooga native, Lawson earned his medical degree at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine and served an orthopedic surgery residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He completed a fellowship in adult reconstruction at the University of Louisville Hospital, where he received specialized training in anterior hip replacement, patient-specific knee replacement, revision hip and knee replacement and robot-assisted hip and knee replacement.
Trained in both surgical and nonsurgical approaches to treating conditions that affect the musculoskeletal system, Lawson offers a wide range of reconstructive options, including anterior total hip replacement, total and partial knee replacement and revision hip and knee replacement.
Lawson is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Academy of Hip and Knee Surgeons, International Congress for Joint Reconstruction and AO Foundation.
Cardiologist joins Parkridge
Parkridge Medical Group – Cardiology recently welcomed board-certified, fellowship-trained interventional cardiologist Dr. Maurice Alston. Alston specializes in minimally invasive approaches to diagnosing, treating and managing cardiovascular disease. He sees patients at his office on the Parkridge Medical Center campus.
Alston earned his doctor of osteopathic medicine degree at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Suwanee, Georgia, and completed an internal medicine residency at Doctors Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, where he completed a cardiovascular fellowship and served as chief cardiovascular fellow. He then completed an interventional cardiovascular fellowship at The Ohio State University in Columbus.
Osborn, Cason moving
Drs. James Osborn and Garrick Cason are moving their practice from Cleveland, Tennessee, to Chattanooga. They will begin seeing patients at Comprehensive Spine Institute Nov. 1.
Osborn has participated in the training of orthopedic surgeons as faculty of the University of Tennessee College of Medicine Department of Orthopedic Surgery. He previously served as the department’s director of adult and pediatric spine and is currently an assistant professor.
Cason completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine and an ACGME accredited fellowship in spinal surgery at the William Beaumont Hospital in Michigan.

Chamber hires Huff for talent initiatives
Miles Huff has joined the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce as senior director of talent initiatives.
Huff most recently oversaw corporate social responsibility, including volunteerism, community engagement and corporate giving, for Unum’s Chattanooga and Glendale, California, campuses.
Huff serves on the regional advisory council for Susan G. Komen and acts as a host for Dining Out for Life, which benefits the Cempa Community Foundation. He is a Leadership Chattanooga alum and the previous business and IT industry council chair for the Hamilton County Schools Future Ready Institutes.
An Eastern Kentucky native, Huff studied at Lee University and holds a graduate degree in mental health counseling. He worked in the mental health field for nearly a decade before moving into employee benefits, human resources and talent development.
Shannon Alvey to lead Garden Plaza
Shannon Alvey has been appointed executive director of Garden Plaza of Collegedale, an independent living facility with 145 apartments situated on a 17-acre campus.
Alvey is a licensed home-for-the-aged administrator through the Tennessee Department of Health. She has experience in multisite physician practices ranging from family and internal medicine practitioners to specialist clinics and surgical groups.
Alvey’s most recent role was as executive director at Legacy Village of Cleveland and The Harbor at Legacy Village. Before that assignment, she was executive director at Dominion Senior Living of Athens. She also worked with Erlanger Health System from 2011-2017.
Alvey has served on the health and education facilities board for the City of Athens and was elected for two consecutive terms to the Athens City Council.
