The Jewish Federation of Greater Chattanooga will host a program on the Michael Levin Lone Soldier Center Monday, Oct. 7, at 7 p.m at the Jewish Cultural Center, located at 5461 North Terrace Road. Coffee and dessert will be served. There is no cost but RSVPs are encouraged, and can be made by calling 493-0270, extension 10, or by emailing rsvp@jewishchattanooga.com.
A lone soldier is a person from another country who provides military service to Israel while remaining a citizen of their native land. The Michael Levine Lone Center supports lone soldiers in the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) before, during, and after their military service. These young immigrants and volunteers arrive in Israel alone, join the IDF, and do their part in protecting Israel and the Jewish people.
The Michael Levine Lone Soldier Center was founded in 2009 by a group of former lone soldiers and Tziki Aud. Aud recently retired as director. He will speak about lone soldiers and the work of the Center.Accompanying him will be Andrew Hirsh and Joni Handler, two lone soldiers from the United States.
The Center is dedicated to meeting the physical and social needs of lone soldiers while they’re in Israel.The organization has a main facility in Jerusalem and other facilities throughout the country. These facilities serve as a place where a young man or woman can receive financial aid, social services, and assistance from a group of people intended to be like family for the soldier while in Israel.
