After reports by workers at the third Read House luncheon Friday for the United Fund Campaign, DeSales Harrison, campaign chairman, announced the total of $1,307,826, or 98.4 percent of the goal, had been reported.

Carol Rawls was crowned “Homecoming Queen for 1964-65” Saturday night at the University of Chattanooga football game. Miss Rawls is a member of the senior class and vice president of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority.
Spurling Business Forms Corp. will start operation this week at its modern plant at 1108 McCallie Avenue. President George Spurling Saturday said a $50,000 collator and a $100,000 offset press are being installed.

The East Tenn. Regional meeting of the Tennessee Conference of Social Welfare will be held at the Hotel Patten, Friday, Nov. 20, according to Barbara Lee Smith, chairman. The theme of the meeting is “Fifty Years of Social Welfare – A Challenge to the Future.”

The proposed $17,000,000 school bond issue failed to carry a single precinct in Hamilton County, losing by more than a six-to-one margin.

Warner N. Gass, administrator of Tallahatchie General Hospital, Charleston, Miss., for the past seven years, has been named administrator of the Siskin Memorial Foundation and its rehabilitation center, Operation Crossroads.

The symposium, “Frontiers of Applied Physics,” sponsored by the University of Chattanooga and held in conjunction with the 31st annual meeting of the Southeastern Section of the American Physical Society, will continue through Saturday morning. Dr. Louis C. Roberts, Oak Ridge, is chairman of the Southeast Section. Dr. LeRoy Martin, president of U.C., opened the symposium Wednesday with a brief welcome address.

“A Fantasy of Orchids” will come to Chattanooga Friday with members of the Mid-American Orchid Congress, who will open their session with a public two-day showing of orchids in the lobby of the downtown Pioneer Bank and business meetings in the Read House.
