Members of the Market Street River Bridge Commission have signed a contract with Vang Construction Co. of Cumberland, Md., for the construction of the new bridge. The consulting engineer, B.H. Davis, will give the order, and work will begin this week.
Mr. and Mrs. F.W. Blair announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Sarah Louise, to Mr. Ralph Wesley Dwight. The wedding will take place at the First Baptist Church in early December.

Gene Patton of South Pittsburg, Tenn., a former Baylor football star, has been playing great ball with Georgia Tech this season.
Tuesday, Nov. 3
Dr. and Mrs. Douglas McCallie and little daughter have sailed from Korea and will come to Chattanooga to visit his parents, Dr. and Mrs. T.H. McCallie. Mrs. Campbell Brumby of Gainesville, Ala., is visiting Mrs. J.R. Barnes on McCallie Avenue.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Jackson have moved to the “Nathalie” to spend the winter.

Mrs. Susan Kline and daughter, Helen, have landed in New York from London and are expected home this week.
Thursday, Nov. 5
The Rev. L.A. Swisher of Vinton, Iowa, will arrive Friday to assume the pastorate of the First Methodist Episcopal Church (Stone Church). He will succeed Dr. Charles Haven Meyers.
A new civic and commercial organization in East Chattanooga, christened “East Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce,” sponsored by new business organizations and more than 100 citizens, has honored attorney Righter Cogswell by electing him president. Other officers elected were J.W. Bender, first vice president; O.F. Walton, second vice president; F.A. Peckingpauh, secretary; George Baldwin, assistant secretary; and Dr. James Eldridge, treasurer.
Friday, Nov. 6
Miss Elizabeth Sharp made her debut Thursday afternoon at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L.J. Sharp, on Sixth Street. About 200 guests called between three and six o’clock. The home was beautifully decorated for the occasion.
The wedding of Miss Katherine Casey and William R. Snyder was solemnized at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church by Father Francis T. Sullivan Thursday. After a wedding breakfast at the home of the bride on East Eighth Street, the young couple left for a wedding trip to Washington, D.C. On their return, they will reside at the home of the groom’s mother, Mrs. Annie Snyder. v
