Chattanooga society motored to Fort Oglethorpe to attend the Fall Horseshow presented by the Eleventh Cavalry. There will be a keen contest for the many Cups offered. The famous 11th Cavalry Band will be on hand for the event. Lieut. Blunt is chairman for the Show.
Lawrence Faucette, well known YMCA worker and alumnus of Chattanooga High School and University of Chattanooga, has been awarded the Rhodes Scholarship at Oxford. He has a D.D. degree from the University of the South at Sewanee and is planning to enter the ministry.
Sunday, Oct. 31
Miss Elise Chapin entertained Saturday with a golf luncheon for Miss Margaret Mitchell of Cincinnati. Misses Nancy and Elizabeth honored Miss Mitchell Saturday night with a dinner at the Hitching Post.
Miss Clara Pindell, daughter of L.M. Pindell, has been given popular distinction at the Univ. of Tennessee by being elected to the vice presidency of the senior class.
Mrs. W.O. Jones gave a children’s party to honor her niece, Evelyn Hobson McDonald, on her ninth birthday. Sixteen guests were invited.
Monday, Nov. 1
Misses Katherine Spears and Alma Fanning entertained with a Halloween party at the Spears home Saturday night.
Miss Betty Andrews is the guest of Miss Elizabeth Keith. She will be an attendant in the Keith-Caldwell wedding.
Tuesday, Nov. 2
Mrs. Samuel Boyd Allen of Tate Springs is the guest of Mrs. Sue C. Johnson and will attend the Tennessee D.A.R. conference here. Mrs. Allen will leave for Norfolk after the conference.
Miss Margaret Shalliday will appear in concert tonight at the YWCA. This is her first appearance since she returned from Europe. Prof. Roy L. Smith will be her accompanist.
Wednesday, Nov. 3
Tuesday’s national elections were unanimous in giving Women’s Suffrage a staggering defeat, especially in Massachusetts, New York and Pennsylvania.
Miss Anna Martin complimented Mrs. Joseph Dart, Jr., of Dayton, Ohio, with a luncheon at the Chattanooga Golf and Country Club. Thirty guests were invited. Mrs. Dart is the former Katherine Martin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Martin.
The gates of the Chattanooga District Fair open today. There will be a parade, band concerts and Gov. Thomas C. Rye will officially open the Fair at 9 a.m. at Warner Park. The Eleventh Cavalry Band will give a concert at 1:45 p.m. Sam A. Connor is president of the Fair Association.
Thursday, Nov. 4
Mrs. E.G. Willingham of Memphis, a delegate to the State D.A.R. Convention, is at the Patten Hotel. Later, she will visit Miss Tommie Duffy and Mrs. R.P. Woodard before returning home.
Women have scored a triumph in their successful part in the Fair and are receiving high praise in rug making, cooking, sewing and other domestic achievement. The Domestic Science classes at Central High and City High are serving hot rolls, cookies and other delicacies to the Fair visitors.
Friday, Nov. 5
Miss Alleen Cole of Chilhowie, Va., who is attending Centenary College in Cleveland, is the weekend guest of Miss Jane Haymore.
