What was happening in Chattanooga in 1961



Monday, October 30

Some 150 acres of timberland in Hamilton County were destroyed by fire Sunday, the state forestry service here reported. Eleven forest fires were reported in the county during the day.

Wednesday, November 1

Miller Bros. Co. is spon­­soring Youth Con­certs Wednesday and Thurs­day at the Memorial Auditorium presented by the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra. The program will be presented each day at 1:30 and 12:30.

Thursday, November 2

Sale of the remaining $3,000,000 school-bond issue approved at the polls a year ago was authorized Wednesday by the County Council. Bids on the bonds are to be opened in County Judge Frost’s office at 11 a.m. November 21.

Friday, November 3

Approximately 100 members of the Tennessee Society of the Sons of the American Revolution will meet for their 1961 annual convention Saturday at Hotel Patten. Guest speaker at the convention will by Lou J. Williams, vice president of the Hamilton National Bank. Harrison W. Gill, state president of the S.A.R., will preside.
