Mr. and Mrs. John A. Patten announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Charlotte, to Mr. Alexander Guerry. Miss Patten is one of Chattanooga’s most popular young ladies. Mr. Guerry from Charleston, S.C., is the associate principal of Baylor School.

Lapsley Hope of Eureka, Nev., has come to join Mrs. Hope and baby, who are visiting her mother, Mrs. H.W. Grant.

Sunday, Oct. 25

At a meeting of the board of directors of the YMCA, a full corps of officers was elected for the ensuing year. They are President W.E. Brock, Vice President C.H. Huston, Recording Secretary Benjamin F. Weir, Treasurer Alex Scott and Assistant Treasurer A.W. Burke. Mr. Brock succeeds Mr. John A. Patten, who has served as president for several years.

Monday, Oct. 26

At the Southern Peace Conference of the South Atlantic States, Mrs. Anne Bachman Hyde gave an address on the theme “The Pageantry of War.” The meeting was held at the First Baptist Church. Dr. T.S. McCallie presided. Over 300 were present.

Mr. and Mrs. John Chambliss and children returned to Lookout Mountain Tuesday after a stay with Miss Rowena Sizer.

Tuesday, Oct. 27

 Mr. George W. Heggie announced the engagement and approaching marriage of his sister, Lucille, to Mr. Llewellyn Lee Brown of Anderson, S.C. Mr. Brown is connected with a large cotton mill in Anderson, where they will make their home.

Miss Gertrude Oehmig will return from Cincinnati this week, where she has been the guest of Mr. and Mrs. W.G. Oehmig, Jr.

Mrs. J.P. McCallie and little daughter will leave Thursday for Little Rock, Ark. They will also visit in Corinth, Miss.

Wednesday, Oct. 28

Mrs. Gray Gentry is at the

Woolford-Johnson Infirmary, where she underwent an operation.

Thursday, Oct. 29

At the annual meeting of the Inter-Church Federation, the Protestant and the Catholic churches of Chattanooga joined in raising funds for the three million Belgians who are in desperate need of relief. In a meeting at the YMCA, urgent appeals were heard from Mrs. A.S. Key, who had just returned from Belgium. Mr. D.A. Landress was made president of the Federation.

In a surprise wedding in Cleveland, Tenn., Wednesday night, John Bledsoe Hoyle and Miss Leah R. Fletcher were married in the Episcopal rectory. This popular young couple had planned to be married in December, and were already on their way to New York before their friends found out about the change in plans.

Friday, Oct. 30

Miss Frankie Henderson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Henderson, was elected by the County High School Board as an assistant Domestic Science teacher at Central High School. She will join Miss Gladys Robinson and Miss Annie K. Moseley as instructors.

Mrs. E.B. Craig, Misses Mamie and Corrine Craig will visit Mr. and Mrs. Theodore King in Riverview before leaving Sunday for Nashville.

Mrs. Thomas Scrutchins of Chicago came Thursday to visit Miss Alice Stafford, her sister.
