President Johnson stopped in Chattanooga at Lovell Field for a one-hour and seven-minute visit. He spoke for 20 minutes to a crowd estimated at more than 25,000. Senator Albert Gore, Congressman Ross Bass, and Robert Summitt were aboard the President’s Boeing 707 jet, Air Force 1, when it arrived from Memphis.

Earl J. Platt, president of the Chattanooga Area Heart Association, announced the appointment of R.A. Strauss as 1965 Chairman of the Heart Fund Drive and Miss Betty Mac of WEDF-TV chairman for Heart Sunday.
Monday, Oct. 26
The congregation of the First Christian Church has voted to demolish the Hon Educational Annex gutted by fire last February and replace it with a new $180,000 educational building. Dr. William G. West, pastor of the church, said the proposed building will give adequate educational facilities for years to come.
Tuesday, Oct. 27
Chattanooga High School’s marching band, directed by Jewell Tilson, has amassed a total of eight trophies during the current academic year. The band has accepted an invitation to serve as the demonstration unit at the Mid-West National Band Clinic at Chicago’s Sherman House, Dec. 16-18, when more than 5,000 band directors and other musicians from United States and Canada will be in attendance.

Local civic, governmental and business leaders attended a luncheon at the Read House to welcome The Tag Container Co., a $500,000 corrugated container plant to Chattanooga. The luncheon was planned by the Industrial Committee of 100.

Frank E. Hodgkins, a widely experienced resort hotel administrator, has been named an executive of Beef & Liberty, Inc., and will be in charge of the company-operated Lakeshore Lodge, officials of the firm announced.

John W. Cummings was appointed Junior Achievement’s fund campaign chairman in the Chattanooga area, it was announced today by Joe H. Davenport, president of Junior Achievement of Chattanooga, Inc., and president of Volunteer State Life Insurance Co.
