Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga Area relies solely on volunteers to help build decent, energy efficient, and affordable homes for working families enrolled in the nonprofit’s homeownership program.
On any given weekend, one can find civic, corporate, student, or church groups volunteering on the Habitat for Humanity’s worksites. The most common day for groups to volunteer is Saturday.
In an effort to give individuals not associated with any particular group an opportunity to participate in a Saturday build, Habitat for Humanity recently launched Habitat Heroes Build.
Through this new volunteer initiative, the first Saturday of each month is designated for individual volunteers. Anyone 16 years and older can participate in Habitat Heroes Build. Volunteers may sign up by contacting Katrina Payne, Habitat’s volunteer coordinator, at (423) 756-0507, extension 31, or KPayne@habichatt.org.
For the past three years, Habitat focused their efforts on 34 homes in the Bushtown Neighborhood. Habitat transitioned out of Bushtown and is now working in the Historic Glass Farm Neighborhood.
The next Habitat Heroes Build will take place on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
