I Swear...


Dogs, drunks, thieves dominate Police Beat



On a recent visit to Eureka Springs, Ark., I found myself with a “Lovely County Citizen” in my hands.
A local touted the “Police Beat,” telling me to be sure not to miss it.
Here are a few items:
Monday, Sept. 14 …
7:12 p.m. – A drunk who was thrown out of a downtown restaurant agreed to get a hotel room and stay off the street. …
Tuesday, Sept. 15 …
9:31 a.m. – An officer visited a Florence St. residence and convinced a woman to surrender her ex-husband’s car keys. …
Wednesday, Sept. 16
3:23 a.m. – The animal control officer was asked to check on a dog serenading Main St. …
Thursday, Sept. 17
1:27 a.m. – The animal control officer was asked to check on a dog barking at an upper Spring St. residence….
3:44 a.m. – A Spring Street resident complained about loud drunks waking her up and the responding officer encountered loud drunks in front of their own residence who were advised to go inside and let their neighbors sleep.
8:09 a.m. – A vending machine was burgled at a US62 E motel.
11:21 a.m. – Another vending machine was robbed at a different US62 E motel.
1:01 p.m. – A detective and two officers responded when a called reported an “agitated” person walking in the roadway on US62 E.
2:01 p.m. – Following a complaint from a shopowner, an officer was unable to find any evidence that a shoplifter had been at work….
5:22 p.m. – A caller told police that hospital personnel would not answer the phone.
5:30 p.m. – A caller complained about dogs barking on North Main Street …
Friday, Sept. 18
2:59 a.m. – An officer spoke with a North Main Street resident who was awakened by the noise of her own barking dogs.
4:20 a.m. – A patrol officer noticed a screen removed from a window behind a closed motel that had been in place an hour earlier.
10:06 a.m. – Another vending machine was popped at a third US62 E motel.
12:42 p.m. – In the fourth instance of the week’s most popular crime, a vending machine was robbed at a Highway 23S nursing home.
