Dual Exhibits at the Jewish Cultural Center
Two exhibits, “Interpretations: Contemporary Jewish Art” and “Windows of Identity,” will be open to the public at the Jewish Cultural Center from October 22 through November 30. Each exhibit proclaims the unique visual dimensions of religion. A reception to meet the artists and view both exhibits will take place on Thursday, October 25 at 5:30 p.m. at the Jewish Cultural Center, located at 5461 North Terrace Road.

See double at Townsend Atelier
Join Townsend Atelier for a laid back, fascinating evening watching two artists at work. From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., painter Mia Bergeron and sculptor Maria Larson will each be creating a portrait of the same live model. Bergeron will paint a portrait in oil and Larson will sculpt in clay. Attendees will be welcome to ask questions, take photographs and mingle during the demonstration. Light refreshments will be served. Townsend Atelier is located at 201 West Main Street. Fantasy Maze and Tennessee Riverpark
Hamilton County Parks and Recreation will host the 11th Annual Fantasy Maze at the Tennessee Riverpark (4301 Amnicola Highway) from 6 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The Fantasy Maze features cartoon heroes and classic characters hidden within a large straw bale maze. There will be no threatening characters or a scary atmosphere at this event. Characters will give candy and trinkets and provide photo opportunities. Premiere of new National Park Service film
Join the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park and the Friends of the Park for the world premiere of the new Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center film “The Campaign for Chattanooga: Death Knell of the Confederacy.” The new 26-minute historical film provides an overview of the Campaign for Chattanooga, examines the city’s importance during the American Civil War, and details the struggle between North and South to control strategic Chattanooga. The film will premiere at the Majestic Theater in downtown Chattanooga at 5:45 p.m. and 7 p.m. The film premiere will mark the beginning of a yearlong commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War actions in Southeast Tennessee and Northwest Georgia and is the only time that the film will show outside of the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center.
The film details the early military occupation of the city by Federals, the Battle of Chickamauga, the siege of Chattanooga by Confederates and the Battles for Chattanooga (Orchard Knob, Lookout Mountain, and Missionary Ridge). The film brings to life the struggle for the Gateway to the Deep South as it uses soldiers’ letters and writings to tell the stories of common soldiers who fought and died on the battlefields and the impact on their families at home. Ronald McDonald House’s Bowl-A-Rama Fundraiser
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Chattanooga invites the Chattanooga community to participate in their 3rd annual Bowl-A-Rama fundraiser. Taking place on three separate days, Bowl-A-Rama is set for Saturday, November 3 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Holiday Bowl for competitive league bowling and Wednesday and Thursday, November 7 and 8, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Pin Strikes Bowling Alley for friends and family teams. The event, sponsored in part by Ameriprise Financial, Physicians Care and Maxim Pediatric Services, will benefit families of seriously ill and injured children receiving care at Chattanooga hospitals. Hamilton YMCA First Annual 5K Run
A family-oriented 5K run is set for Saturday, November 3 at Hamilton Place. The run will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Academy Sports + Outdoors and wind through the 200-acre shopping complex. The money raised will benefit this year’s YMCA Strong Kids Campaign, which supports a number of programs – including Y-CAP, a mentoring program for at-risk youth, as well as afterschool programs, academic enrichment programs, Youth Leadership Chattanooga and Y memberships. Registration forms are available at the Hamilton YMCA, Academy Sports and online at HamiltonPlace.com. The YMCA will provide free on-site childcare during the event.
