Snack Pack Ministry will be able to feed more students after receiving a $6,300 gift from 100+ Women Who Care Chattanooga.
100+ Women Who Care Chattanooga held its first event at Embargo 62.
Sixty-three women attended the one-hour meeting and contributed $100 each.
Snack Pack Ministry founder and Crye-Leike Realtor Janice Roberson pitched her charity to the group during a brief presentation.
Snack Pack Ministry is based out of East Brainerd Church of Christ. The all-volunteer program serves 2,060 students in 17 Hamilton County schools each week during the school year and has an annual budget of $164,800.
Volunteers meet at the church the first Wednesday of each month to fill bags with healthy food. The bags are then delivered to the schools each Friday.
“We were honored to be the recipient of the gift from 100+ Women Who Care,” Robertson says. “The money we received will help us fill about 3,000 bags with food.”
Sleep in Heavenly Peace and Children’s Advocate Center also presented pitches.
100+ Women Who Care Chattanooga founder Lisi Chavarri began to explore the possibility of launching a local chapter of 100+ Women after moving to the city in 2016. She first encountered the organization at a meeting in Miami eight years ago.
“Not everyone can buy a table at a charity event or accept an invitation to a table and then make another donation at the end of the evening,” Chavarri says. “100+ Women Who Care is for people who want to give back but can’t afford to on that scale.”
100+ Women Who Care will host its next meeting Tuesday, Feb. 4, 6:30 p.m. The location has not been determined. Join at 100pluscha.com.
