On Oct. 19, the Chattanooga Housing Authority will create a new waiting list for the
Housing Choice Voucher Program through the use of an online lottery system. The preliminary application will be available online Monday, Oct. 19 from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. The link to the application will be posted at www.chahousing.org.
Paper applications will not be available or accepted; however, computers and assistance will be available at the Chattanooga Housing Authority office, located at 801 N. Holtzclaw Avenue, on Oct. 19 from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Each applicant may submit one application for the lottery. If CHA receives more than one application from an applicant, that applicant will be disqualified from participation in the lottery.
“With this lottery system, there’s no advantage based on when the application was submitted,” said Tammie Carpenter, director of the Housing Choice Voucher Program at CHA. “The order of the waiting list will be determined by random selection through third party software.”
At noon on Oct. 26, the applicants who have randomly been assigned numbers one through 1,000 will be placed on the HCVP waiting list.
CHA receives federal funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to administer the Housing Choice Voucher Program. The Housing Choice Voucher program is a federal government program for assisting low-income families, the elderly, and the disabled to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market.
