Saturday, Oct. 15
Mrs. Mary Wheland Willingham, widow of Arch C. Willingham II, died Saturday morning in a local hospital unexpectedly. She was a member of one of Chattanooga’s oldest and most prominent families. Her parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Z.W. Wheland.

Sunday, Oct. 16
United Fund-Red Cross campaign money and pledges reported at the first report luncheon meeting Friday at the Read House amounted to $827,074 or 73.6 per cent of the goal of $1,112,563. Nearly 300 persons attended the meeting. W. Roy Meyers, general chairman, presided.

Tuesday, Oct. 18
County Court Clerk Jack D. Hixson is in Erlanger Hospital as the result of a heart attack in his office at the Court House Monday afternoon. He was reported in satisfactory condition Tuesday.

Wednesday, Oct. 19
The appointment of Dr. Nat L. Winston, Jr., of Johnson City as superintendent of the states’ new Moccasin Bend Psychiatric Hospital was announced Tuesday by Dr. Joseph J. Baker, mental health commissioner.
