Miss Alice Huffaker was hostess of an afternoon party honoring Miss Katherine Abeel, a future bride. Misses Blanche and Lois Sowers, Mary Louise White, and Lena Blair assisted in serving. About 25 guests were present.

Miss Wessie Bowen was hostess of an afternoon bridge party at her home in Chickamauga, Ga., Saturday, honoring Miss Katherine Betts, a future bride.
Dr. W.F. Smith, accompanied by his wife and daughter, are motoring to Chattanooga from Huntington, Ind. Dr. Smith has accepted the invitation of the Board of Deacons of the First Methodist Church to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Rev. LA. Swischer, former pastor.
Monday, Oct. 16
Vernon Castle took time before leaving for Flanders in his aeroplane to invent a new dance, “The London Taps.” It is like the fox-trot except now and then a “jiggity step” with rhythmic heel taps make it both novel and exhilarating.
Tues., Oct. 17
The Chattanooga Writer’s Club, organized June, 1914, issued their new Year Book. Their emblem “Sequoyah” and their motto “Each For All and All for Each.” Mrs. Charles R. Hyde is president.
Mrs. J. Frank Turner and Miss Josephine Turner have returned from a trip to Atlanta.
Coach Spiegle is overhauling the Univ. of Chattanooga football team, and having brisk practicing. The team leaves for Louisville to play Univ. of Louisville. G. Byron Pope, quarterback who was injured Saturday in the Moccasin-Mississippi Aggies game, will not be able to go with the team.
Wednesday, Oct. 18
The wedding of Mis Mary Steward and William J. Mills of Columbia, S.C., was solemnized Tuesday at Sts. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church. Rev. Francis Sullivan officiated. After a southern wedding trip,the young couple will reside at the Jefferson Hotel in Columbia.
Mrs. Elmer Rule has retuned from a visit in Louisville, Ky.
Thursday, Oct. 19
Miss Katherine Betts and Max Seaton of Cleveland, Ohio, were married Wednesday night at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.E. Betts in St. Elmo. Dr. J.W. Bachman officiated. Following a reception, the bride and groom left for a wedding trip. They will reside in Cleveland, Ohio.
Friday, Oct. 20
President O.B. Andrews of the Chattanooga Ball Club says that Billy Smith has rigged a deal that figures in a trade of Fred Graff and Jim Allen for “Red” McDermott and Keliher, an outfielder, of Richmond, Va. Club. Kid Elberfeld, manager, is giving it serious thought, but it has not been settled.
Mr. and Mrs. Will Davenport are with Misses Katherine and Lilla Davenport while Mrs. George Davenport is visiting in Valley Head, Ala.
Dr. and Mrs. Evans of Valparaiso, Ind., arrived today to visit DeForrest Evans and Mrs. Evans.
