The East Tennessee Medical Association met in Johnson City October 10-11. Dr. C.J. Broyles, president, of Johnson City, presided. The business session was followed by election of officers. D.H.P. Larimore of Chattanooga was elected secretary and treasurer; Drs. E. Dunbar Newell, James H. Atlee, J.B. Haskins and C.H. Wylie were the Chattanooga doctors appearing on the program.
Miss Irene Whiteside has issued invitations to an afternoon tea to be given at the Patten Hotel for her guest Miss Gamaliel Dixon of Birmingham.
News of the engagement and approaching marriage of Miss Nell Yarrington to Mr. Charles Thompson leaked out Friday. Miss Yarrington, a well-known and popular young lady, has been society editor of the Chattanooga News for the past three years. Mr. Thompson is connected with the Noll Construction Co.

Miss Ruby Hanlon entertained with a matinee party Saturday at the Bijou Theater in honor of Miss Ethel Johnston, who will be married this week. Her guests were Misses Frances Meyers, Lucille Lessly, Carrie Sloan, Bess McWhorter, Nina and Nell Doty, Eva Wilbur, Margaret Gillespie, S. Powell, Mary Fred Willingham, Emily Relfe, Eva Cassidy, Frances Biese, Naomi Widrig, Annette Peeples, Mesdames Anna Bell McDonald and H.D. Wallin.
Mrs. J.C. Norman and son Edwin will leave Tuesday for Clinton, S.C. to visit Mrs. Norman’s mother.

Miss Mary Read is entertaining a number of friends with a house party at “Lake-view,” her country home. Invited are Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Wednesday, October 16
Three strong pullers for the $500,000 Endowment Fund at the University of Chattanooga are Mayor Thompson, President J.H. Race and John A. Patten. The fund has reached $378,558 so far. The Chamber of Commerce has endorsed the campaign and plans to actively work for its success.
Miss Maude Rathmell left Tuesday for several weeks’ visit to relatives in Ohio.
The first Session of the Union Veterans was opened at the Patten Hotel by National Commander William Patten Griffith of New York with 500 delegates in attendance. The Army of the Cumberland is meeting here, too. Cap’t H.S. Chamberlain welcomed the visitors in the name of the city. Next year’s session will be in Zanesville, Ohio. A.H. Stafford of Jamestown, Ohio, has been named the new Commander.
Thursday, October 17
The wedding of Miss Mary Ruth Bates and Eugene J. Bryan was solemnized Wednesday at the home of the bride. Rev. P.L. Cobb of the Highland Park Methodist Church officiated. Following a reception, Mr. and Mrs. Bryan left for a wedding trip to Florida.
Miss Ethel Johnston and Horace McDowell were married at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.D. Johnston, on Lindsay Street. Dr. W.E. Thompson of Centenary Church officiated. Following a wedding trip, the young couple will reside at 722 Bailey Avenue, Highland Park.
Friday, October 18
A surprise wedding was solemnized Thursday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. G.Q. Adams on Chestnut Street when Miss Lucille Lessly and Harry Miller were married by Rev. F.L. Grace of the Central Baptist Church. The young couple left immediately for a wedding trip to Chicago.
Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Roberson of Jasper passed through Chattanooga Thursday en route to Kingston, Tenn., to attend the wedding of Miss Lucille Crumbliss and John Shaw.
Mrs. G. Manning Ellis and Miss Jenny Loop left this morning for Fredericksburg, Md., to attend the Golibart-Rohrback wedding.
Mr. and Mrs. Webster Colburn of Cincinnati, who have just returned from abroad, have left New York for St. Louis. They will come the first of November to visit Mrs. Colburn’s sister, Mrs. R.J. Maclellan, on Bluff View.
